Most contractors default to a dumpster. On plenty of jobs that is right, and on others it quietly costs more than hauling.
A dumpster earns its keep when debris comes out steadily over weeks and somebody has time to load it. You work at your own pace.
It stops making sense once weight enters the picture. A dumpster is priced against a weight allowance, and concrete, tile, plaster and shingles hit that ceiling long before the box looks full.
It also stops making sense when the driveway is the only place to put it and you still need the driveway, or when it has to sit on the street, which in a lot of towns means applying for a permit first.
Hauling works the other way round. A crew arrives, loads, and leaves with it, so nothing occupies the site between visits.
What Construction Cleanup Services Take Off a Site
Most of what goes on the truck is framing lumber, drywall offcuts and subfloor. Tile, carpet and roofing shingles come next. Then the heavy end, which is brick, block and broken concrete.
The packaging is the part that rarely gets mentioned on the phone. Pallets, banding, cardboard and the foam that came with everything delivered. On a fit out that can be half the volume.
Weight is what decides this job. A truckload of shingles and a truckload of kitchen cabinets take up the same space and are nothing like the same load, which is why a quote for construction work needs to know what the material is and not only how much of it there is.
Construction Site Cleanup While the Job Is Still Running
A live site is a different job from a finished one, so tell us what stage you are at when you book.
During rough in, the concern is access. Where the truck can park, what is blocking the route out, and which trades are working in the rooms we need to cross.
After the finishes go in, the concern reverses. Now it is the floor that was laid last week and the door frames on the way to the street. The route we would take on a stripped site is the wrong one once the job is nearly done.
What Stops a Job and What to Check Before You Call
Asbestos and lead paint waste are the two that bring everything to a halt. Any building from before the early 1980s can contain either, and neither goes in a junk truck under any circumstances. That is licensed abatement work and it has to be finished before the rest of the debris can move.
Paint, solvents, adhesives and fuel are the other regular refusals. If you are looking at something and are not sure what it is, send a photo with your quote request. Finding out on the morning of the pickup costs everybody half a day.

Tell us it is concrete when you ask for the quote. Dense material is priced by weight, not by the space it fills, so a small pile of broken slab is a different job from a truck of cabinetry.
