Estate Cleanout Services
Clearing a parent's house is rarely about the furniture. We take care of the hauling so the family can spend its time on the part only the family can do.
What Estate Cleanouts Involve That a Regular Haul Does Not
On most jobs the customer points at a pile and the pile goes. An estate is different, because nobody knows yet what the pile is.
Somewhere in forty years of one household there are papers that still matter and a ring in a drawer that is not a jewelry box. So the work runs the other way round from a normal haul. Sorting comes first, room by room, and the truck waits.
We are family run, which is the main reason that pace does not bother us.
Estate Cleanup Services When You Are the One Deciding
The hard part is not the lifting. It is that you are making calls on behalf of people who are not in the room, and some of those calls cannot be taken back.
Three things make that easier, and none of them cost anything.
Photograph every room
Do it before anything moves. It takes twenty minutes and it settles most arguments later.
Keep one room shut
Anything sentimental, anything undecided, anything a sibling might want goes in there. Tell us which room and we work around it.
Settle keepsakes early
Not on the day. Decisions made while a truck waits outside are the ones families regret.
Where Estate Junk Removal Ends Up
Everything leaving the house goes to one of three places. Donation takes what still works, which is most of the furniture, the clothing, the books and whatever is in the kitchen cupboards. Recycling takes the metal, cardboard and electronics. The dump gets the remainder, and it is usually the smallest of the three loads.
If the estate needs a record of what left the property, say so when you book and not afterwards. Where an estate is being accounted for, knowing what was donated and where it went is worth having on paper, and it is far easier to arrange on the day than to reconstruct a month later.
How Long a House Takes and When to Book
Count rooms and you will guess wrong. A small house with a packed basement and a loaded attic takes longer than a larger one that stayed tidy. A single room, on its own, is a few hours.
Book earlier than feels necessary. Estate work usually sits against a date somebody else set, a closing, a settlement, the end of a lease, and those dates do not move because the schedule got tight. If you are partway through probate and not yet certain what can be removed, call anyway. We would rather hold a slot than watch you lose one.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Somebody with authority should be on site for the sorting, at least at the start of each room. Once those decisions are made you do not need to stand and watch the loading.
-
It comes to you and that room stops. Tell us at the outset if you want everything checked past you before it goes on the truck, and we will work that way.
-
Yes. Basements and garages often need to go while the main floor stays staged for a sale. Tell us the boundary and we work to it.
-
Paint, solvents, propane tanks, motor oil and anything medical usually need separate handling, and a basement is where they hide. Pull them into one place and ask us when you book.
-
Start with the rooms nobody is emotional about. The garage, the basement, the spare bedroom. By the time you reach the bedrooms you will have a feel for the pace, and the decisions come faster.

Every house is different, so a figure comes from what is actually in it. Tell us which rooms are going and roughly what is in them, and we will quote from there.
